Charles E. “Bing” Lomshek, 74, of Lawrence, KS passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in Lawrence, KS.
He is survived by his wife Pat of 50 years; son Matt and Susan Lomshek; son Jon and Jamie Lomshek; daughter Dana and Brian Wingerd, along with eight grandchildren Mackenzie, Katie, Hunter Lomshek; Annie, Emily, and Lily Lomshek; Gabe and Caleb Wingerd.
Other survivors include his brother-in-law Buddy Kruger, sister-in-law Debbie Fowler and JW, sister-in-law Lori Kruger, and his cousin-“brother” Robert & Lynn Grant.
He was born in Cherokee, KS on November 15th, 1938 to second generation Slovenian-Austrian parents John C. and Ann (Rauniker) Lomshek. He attended Cherokee High School where he graduated and was a letterman in Football, Basketball, and Marching Band.
After High School he served his country in the United States Navy, specializing in training with Aircraft Hydraulics & Aviation Mechanics/Supply. His last duty of assignment was Fleet Aircraft Service SQD104 in Rota, Spain with Honorable Character as an AMH2.
After serving in the US Navy he entered Vocational Technical School at Pittsburg State University and received his degree in Drafting. In 1962 he began working at the LFM Manufacturing Company in Atchison, KS where he was instrumental in designing the underframe carriage unit for the Bay Area Transit System in San Diego. In the 1980’s he was responsible for forging and developing the relationship with Rockwell International and Caterpillar. In 1996 he retired from Atchison Casting.
His greatest enjoyment was his time with his wife and family and spending time gardening and fishing.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence and was active with the Empty Nesters. He previously was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atchison, KS for forty years volunteering in numerous capacities. He served on the Atchison Catholic School Board and was a Eucharistic Minister to the shut-ins as well as a daily communicant. He was a member of the Atchison Jaycees, Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus and VFW and American Legion in Cherokee, KS.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27thh at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence. A rosary and visitation will be on Wednesday, August, 28th at 6:00 p.m. at St. Barbara’s Chapel in Chicopee, KS.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Corpus Christi Catholic Grade School Endowment c/o Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Atchison Catholic Elementary School Endowment and Chicopee Foundation c/o Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Susan, I am sorry to read of your father-in-law’s passing. I remember meeting your husband and remember how fun the girls were showing me their gymnastics in your classroom before school began!!
