Charles Shawbaker

Memorial Mass for Charles Henry Shawbaker,75, Eudora will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church.  Mr. Shawbaker died March 12, 2010 at the Hospice House in Kansas City.  Inurnment will follow at the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery with military honors.

He was born on July 10, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of Louis and Mary Hirst Shawbaker. 

Chuck graduated from Eudora High School.  He went to the University of Kansas in Engineering and later went to Rockhurst College and graduated with cum laude honors.  Chuck worked as an accountant for 18 years at Continental Grain in Kansas City, Missouri retiring in 1987.  He owned and operated Pat’s Pig BBQ in Baldwin City than 2 years later opened another Pat’s Pig BBQ in Topeka, KS.  22 years later is still in operation by his step daughter, Tamara.  Also he continued his accounting business through 2009. 

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  Also he served 20 years with the Coast Guards. 

He married Patricia “Pat” Ann Mahon on September 25, 1974 in Johnson County.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include one son, Charles Steven Shawbaker, Lee Summit, Missouri; two daughters, Catherine Dunn, Kansas City, Missouri; Tamara Starkey, Baldwin City, Kansas; two brothers, Edward, Eudora, Kansas and Louis Kansas City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jeff, Danny, Tommy, Nicole; one great grandson, Merick; three step grandchildren, Christie, Jennifer, Mickayla; one step great granddaughter, Mckenzie.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Michelle Shawbaker.

The family will greet friends one hour before the service at Holy Family Catholic Church.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name for Mickayla Starkey College Educational Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    Pops, doesn’t seem to get any easier your being gone. I miss you more today than I did yesterday. Miss our talks alot. Moms changed as you said she would, but I’m not sure I like the change. Miss you!
