Carolyn Fedrick

Mrs. Carolyn Fedrick, wife of Dr. James Fedrick, passed away on April 9, 2023 in Lawrence, KS, surrounded by her beloved children: Michael Fedrick, Maria Fedrick Ilardi, Thomas Fedrick, and Monica Fedrick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 1:00pm at St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence.

Carolyn was born in St. Louis, Missouri and spent much of her childhood in Los Angeles. She attended the University of Arizona with her future husband Jim, obtained her Master’s degree from Washington University, and returned to college in her 50s to become a registered nurse.

Carolyn’s greatest source of joy was always her family. She and Jim were married for 50 years, raising four children together in New Jersey – and providing extended in-home care for her mother – before retiring to Virginia. Carolyn was deeply involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, and she loved to herald their musical and educational accomplishments. She and Jim eventually moved to Lawrence in 2001 to be close to their daughter and granddaughter.

Carolyn was also a devout Catholic, active in the Church throughout her adult life. She played the organ at church services for many years, and made pilgrimages to Jerusalem and to the Vatican in Rome – where she was thrilled to have an audience with the Pope.

Her treasured experiences also include a voyage on the historic Queen Mary with her beloved grandmother, and attending the Oscars on two occasions. Carolyn loved entertaining others, and she enjoyed watching movies, playing bridge, and going to the symphony and opera. She was also a talented interior decorator. Carolyn was widowed on April 9, 2014, and spent her remaining years focused on friends and family, comforted in the faith that she would one day rejoin her husband Jim.

Please accept our deepest sympathy. Thank you for contacting my brother Ted Quatmann and letting us know of your mother’s passing. We told Toni yesterday and she remembered enjoying her visits to Lawrence. She has little short term memory now. I had hoped to be able to come to the Mass but Toni fell this morning and I need to stay close by. We are making a donation to the local Birthright organization in your mother’s memory. I would like to send a card but I have no addresses.
    May God bless your families.
    Sincerely,
    Cathi Quatmann Stoverink

Maria–Thank you for having Susan notify me of your mother’s passing. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the Mass due to a medical appointment that couldn’t be changed. I thought that Carolyn was still in California, or I would have been visiting her in Lawrence. Carolyn and Jim were wonderful neighbors! I still remember the party at your home where you had lots of family photos displayed, and I learned so much more about Carolyn and what a wonderful family you have.
