Funeral services for Bessie Jeanene “Becky” Bowers, 65, De Soto, KS, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora, with the Rev. Richard Copeland officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. She died on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Becky was born on January 6, 1947 in Pine Bluff, AR the daughter of Paul Edward and Mildred Aileen (Linden) Evans.
She owned and operated Penny Annie’s in Lawrence from March 1988 until she retired.
Becky always enjoyed the holidays, crossword puzzles, traveling the western states with Monte, and always made time for her grandchildren.
She married Monte Bowers on September 12, 1966 in Miami, OK. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include her children, Monica (Tony) Bowers-Istas, Eudora, KS; Kathy Bolling, Lawson, MO; Eric Bowers, Olathe, KS; two brothers, Danny Evans, McKinney, TX; Monte Evans De Soto, KS; one sister, Melissa Evans, Eudora, KS; grandchildren, Emily and Gunnar Istas of Eudora and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Terri.
Becky was much loved and will be greatly missed.
My deepest condolences over the loss of Bessie. Cherish your memories. Keep them close to your heart. Draw close to God in prayer. He is a comforter of all those who mourn. In His Word the Bible God tells us of a brighter future when our loved ones will awake from their restful sleep to enjoy life in paradise. Psalms 37:11,29; Matthew 5:5; John 11:11, 21-26. At that time we will be reunited with them. What a joyful time that will be when we are able to embrace our loved ones again = this time never having to say goodbye. Revelation 21:3,4. Many are finding solace in this promise. I pray that you will also. Loving thoughts and prayers of peace are with you.
Your Indiana family is saddened to learn that Becky has lost her struggle but at least she is no longer in the grips of that terrible illness. I know that you all will miss her terribly. I’m hoping to be able to come to be with you and share the joy she brought to our lives.
To the family, I cannot ever thank you for allowing me to be part of your family. Becky’s great sense of humor at Penny Annie’s was a welcome delight each time I saw her. She even coerced me to dress as an elf one Christmas and much to Gunnar and Emily’s dismay they had to go out in front of the store with me.
Becky and Monte were folks one could always count on and for that she is remembered and my sympathy to Monte as I know what he is going through when my mother lost my father first. Becky will be in heaven laughing and having fun with everyone there. Miss you, David
