Funeral services for Anna Ruth Gray, 92, of Windsor, MO, will be held at the First Christian Church in Windsor on Friday, July 29, 2011. Burial will follow at the Englewood Cemetery in Clinton, MO. She died on Sunday, July 24, 2011 in Lawrence, KS.
She was born on April 30, 1919 in rural Clinton, MO to Emery and Susannah Dehn George.
Anna Ruth graduated from Clinton High School and Sedalia Business College. She and Wyley farmed, and owned and operated a filling station and laundry in Clinton, Missouri. In 1955, she started her employment with Kroger’s grocery store in Windsor and later became the first woman head meat cutter in the Kroger chain in Missouri.
She was very active in the First Christian Church of Windsor, MO where she was an elder and taught Sunday school for over fifty years. She loved traveling, watching baseball, playing golf and cards with friends and especially being with her family. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1940 and is now enjoying life with Him.
She married Wyley Loyd Gray November 28, 1940. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Kitsy Gray of Lawrence, KS, grandchildren, Tacy Fleury, Jody White, and Jay Gray, four great grandchildren, and sister, Evelyn Anstine of Fox Wood Springs, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son Emery Fredrick Gray, and grandson-in-law Brandon White.
The family suggests memorials to the Windsor First Christian or the New Hope Medical Ministry, a ministry of the New Life in Christ Church in Lawrence, KS and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
