Alta Kampschroeder Walter, 95, passed away April 11, 2021 at her home. She was born December 6, 1925 in Stull, Kansas the daughter of Ernest Kampschroeder and Rosa Lutz Kampschroeder. She attended Mound School and graduated from Lecompton Rural High School in 1943. She married Richard C. Walter on September 14, 1946. They were loving partners for 67 years until his death on September 25, 2013.
Alta and Richard enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and spent many hours fishing together.
She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She also worked part-time and then full-time as a rural mail carrier for 32 years.
She is survived by seven children, Rosalee Neibarger, Mike (Connie) Walter, Tim Walter, Marlene (Bob) Swaggerty, Jackie (Joe) Gieseke, Monica (Ken) Davidson, and Brian (Debbie) Walter, seven grandchildren Annette (Brad) Arthofer, Aaron (Kaci) Swaggerty, Kristen Neibarger, Rick Walter, Jakob Walter, Anna Davidson and Hannah Walter and six great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and three sisters, two grandchildren Jennifer and Timothy Walter, and son-in-law Kurt Neibarger.
Visitation and rosary will be held at Warren McElwain Funeral Home, Lawrence from 6:00-8:00, Wednesday, April 14th. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St Theresa’s Church, Perry, Kansas, 10:00 am, Thursday, April 15th. Internment follows at St Peter’s Cemetery, Big Springs, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa’s Church or Lecompton Historical Society care of Warren-McElwain funeral home, 120 West 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the kind caregivers at Visiting Nurses, especially to Andy and Carolyn.
