Alta Maxine Vorhies

Graveside services for Alta Maxine Vorhies, 86, Lawrence will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka. She passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at Medicalodges Eudora.

Alta was born January 30, 1929 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Thomas and Edna O. (Ellis) Andrews.

She belonged to the Eudora United Methodist Church.

She was a Supervisor at King Radio and worked in parts ordering for Allied Signal for more than 21 years before retiring in 1993.

She married Kenneth Dean Vorhies, Sr. April 26, 1947 in Lawrence. He preceded her in death April 17, 2006.

Survivors include three daughters, Felicia Brown and husband, Stan, Lawrence, Sue Cusimano and husband, Rocky, Winthrop Harbor, IL, Bethuelle Cobleigh and husband, Randy, Kansas City, MO; one son, Kenneth Dean Vorhies, Jr. and wife, Janet, Lawrence; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters; and four brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to VNA Hospice or Medicalodges Eudora Activities Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    So sorry to see that Alta has passed. Alta was always a great lady and lots of fun to be around at King Radio/Allied Signal. Sorry for your loss.

    I enjoyed spending time with Alta and your Dad when they lived on the farm south of Eudora. They’d have me down for an evening meal that your Dad would prepare and then we’d spend the rest of the evening playing UNO. Your Mom was a wicked UNO player and took great pride in whipping your Dad and me. They were both fine people and will be missed. You have my sincere condolences.
