Alpha Alice Cohoon

Funeral services for Alpha Alice Cohoon, 90, Lawrence will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Nortonville Cemetery. She died Monday, May 5, 2014 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

Alpha was born August 9, 1923 in Huntsville, AR the daughter of George W. Asberry and Rhoda V. (Bowman) Stansell.

She was a member of the Lawrence Heights Christian Church and a member of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a clerk at Cook’s Paint for 12 years before becoming the office manager and accountant for Jim Clark Motors where she worked from 1957 – 1985 when she retired.

She married Chester Harry Cohoon on November 8, 1941 in St. Joseph, MO. He preceded her in death May 12, 1987.

Survivors include sisters, Jean Langworthy, Silver Lake, KS, Irma Sweet, Watersville, KS, Rita Navinskey, Nortonville, KS, and Kay Emmerich, Lawrence. She was also preceded in death by six siblings.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 9th at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials in her name to Cottonwood, Inc. and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
