Alfred Banker

Memorial service for Alfred “Gene” Banker, 87, Lawrence will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church.  Inurnment will take place in the Church Memorial Gardens at a later date.  Mr. Banker died April 22, 2012 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.  He moved to Lawrence in 1993 from Liberal, KS. 

He was born on July 12, 1924 in Plains, Kansas the son of Otis F. and Ferol Etta (Sparks) Banker.

Gene served in the US Army during WWII as a Corporal in the 17th Airborne Division.  He fought overseas in France and Germany and served as Captain in the National Guard until retirement in 1968.  Gene worked for Northern Natural Gas Company for 34 years in Hugoton, Kansas.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.  

He married Loris Eilene Swafford on October 3, 1942 in Plains, Kansas.  She survives of the home. 

Other survivors include daughters, Connie J. Drake, Topeka, KS, Patricia D. Rumbaugh, (Eldon) Junction City, KS; son, Steven E. Banker (Loralee) Snowflake, AZ; daughter-in-law, Sherry Banker, Lawrence; 6 grandchildren, Jeff  Drake, Matt Drake (Jane), Kelli Raney (David), Mark Banker (Amanda), Benjamin Parr (Sarah), Nathan Parr (Andrea)  and 10 great grandchildren, Ian, Jack, Grace, Luke, Rowan, Christian, Lane, Caleb, Alexa, Rylan.  He was preceded in death by his son, Terry G. Banker in 2004.
 
The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. 

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to First Presbyterian Church or Brandon Woods South and may be sent in care of Mortuary.
