A Celebration of Life for Alden E. “Wally” Holderman, 91, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Private inurnment will be at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in Lecompton. He died on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at his home.
Alden was born on November 8, 1921 in Madison, KS the son of Grover Cleveland and Edith Christine (Liebau) Holderman.
He was a member of the Baptist Church, a life member of Lecompton Historical Society, and a member of Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).
He was a supervisor for Lawrence Paper for 42 years until he retired in 1986.
He married Sarah M. “Mae” Everett on July 31, 1945 in Yates Center, KS. They were married for 63 years. She preceded him in death September 19, 2007.
Survivors include one sister, Emilie Naccarato, Newberg, OR; one daughter, Shirley M. Funk, Lawrence; one son, Richard E. Holderman, Emmaus, PA; five grandchildren, Leah, Jennifer, Beth Ann, Nicole, Matthew; seven great grandchildren, Veronica, LeeAnne, Sahrin, Aaron, Ella, Colin and Avery; one great-great granddaughter, Layla; one nephew, Larry and several other nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends on Thursday from 5 – 6:30 p.m. at Warren-McElwain mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in his name to Lecompton Historical Society or to a Charity of Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
