Albert “Ray” Brewer

Services will be scheduled at a later date in Wichita, KS for Albert “Ray” Brewer, 83, Lawrence, KS.  Private inurnment will be in Hoisington, KS.  He died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence.

He was born on September 23, 1929 in Wetumka, OK, the son of Elmer and Mimi (Troop) Brewer.  Growing up, he lived in Maryville, TN and Hoisington, KS.

He was a graduate of the University of Kansas with a B.A. in Interior Design. 

Ray served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. After being discharged, he worked for the J.C. Penney Company in Dallas, TX. He moved to Lawrence in April 2012.

For many years, he was an interior designer and salesman at House of Carpet in Wichita, KS. 

Survivors include two sisters, Elwanda “Pinky” (husband, Reldon) Blair of El Cajon, CA, Marna (husband, Bob) Moore, of Lawrence, KS. He is also survived by four nieces; Melonie Sullivan, Bonnie Mustoe, Molly Blair, and Ann Lander, and by a nephew, Martin Moore, plus numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Betty, and his nephew, Matthew Moore.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to charity of the donor’s choice and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    I am so very sad to learn about the passing of my friend, Ray. I met Ray in the early 70’s and enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor for many, many years. He was a treasure to numerous people and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, my friend I’ll love you forever.
