Shirley Landon

Shirley M. Landon, 75, Lawrence, formally of Leavenworth died May 12, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.  No services will be held.

 

She was born on August 4, 1933 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Nicolas and Pearl Debutts Whetstine. 

 

Shirley began her career working in a glove factory then later working as a seamstress, owning her own business in the garment industry. 

 

She married Claude “Buddy” Landon on September 6, 1996 in Lancaster, South Carolina.  He survives of the home.

 

Other survivors include four sons, David Messinger, Leavenworth, Richard Messinger, Liberty, MO, Elano Salazar, Michael Salazar, both of Kansas City, KS; three step-sons, Doug Landon, John Landon, Mike Landon; one sister, Rosilee Narrogon, Mills, Wyoming; one brother, Ernie Whetstine, Leavenworth; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, Rehabilitation or Hospice Care, or Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Department and sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    I am so sorry for your loss. Ramesh was the most gentle, wonderful person and it was a true privilege to be one of his physicians. Every visit I had with him was special, because he would usually share something from his life that was important, and it was almost always about “family.” He was a true gentleman.

    He made an indelible impression on me both as a teacher and a wonderful human being…
