Gary Howe

Visitation for Gary G. Howe, 62, Junction City, KS will be held Friday, December 30, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS.  Private family services will take place at a later date.  He died December 25, 2011 at his home.

Gary was born on April 19, 1949 in Newton, Iowa the son of GrayDon G. and Maye E. Owens Howe. 

Gary attended high school in Newton, Iowa.  He served in the US Army during Vietnam. Gary worked as an auto mechanic and was a lifetime member of the NRA. 

He married Theresa “Terry” Ensley on October 15, 1970.  They later divorced. 

Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Rundell and husband, Hugh, Lawrence, KS,  Julie Hoffer, and husband, Rod, Lawrence, KS,  Amy Gaines and husband, John, Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren, Hannah, Hope, Hunter, Riley, Ruby; one sister, Judy Leavens and husband, Harold, Newton, Iowa; sister-in-law, Gladys Howe, Waterloo, Iowa and long-time companion, Una Helman.   He was preceded in death by two infant sisters and three brothers, Larry McFarling, GrayDon Howe, Jr., Carl Howe and his parents.   

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Gary G. Howe Memorial Fund for the Milford State Park.

    My deepest sympathy to the family of Gary Howe. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I remember being friends with Julie and spending time at her house and Gary was always so kind and very funny. My deepest sympathies to all of you.

    Gary was half-brother to my father Graydon Gregory Howe, Jr. I didn’t know Gary well as we always lived miles away but he was always in my heart and prayers as a connection to my family. Blessings to all of you as you send him on his way home.
