Sally Lou Lieberman

Sally Lou Sternau Lieberman, formerly of Philadelphia, Detroit and Dallas, died on December 15 at her home in Lawrence, Kansas.

She was born on July 29, 1927, to Arthur and Ada Sternau and spent her childhood in Philadelphia. She graduated from Penn State University in 1949, and one week later she married her handsome Marine pen-pal, Edwin (Buzz) Lieberman. They had two daughters: Alice (Tom McDonald), Lawrence, KS; and Mary (Michael Heil), Ft. Worth, TX. Her life was full of friends who sustained her throughout Buzz’s long illness. He died in 2002 after 53 years of marriage, mostly in Dallas. In 2005, she moved to Lawrence, KS.

She lived out her remaining years in Lawrence and there she enjoyed watching her grandsons Ethan (Michelle Bankson) and Jared (Lisa Ching) become husbands, fathers, and all-around great guys. She adored her great-grandchildren Nova and Julian. She was introduced to Julian just this past Thanksgiving.

In addition to her family, our Mother enjoyed playing Bridge; a good day was one with “beautiful cards.” She loved dogs and cats, sweeping love stories, Klondike bars and her friends of all ages and walks of life. Her children are especially grateful to her friends in Lawrence who made her last years so worthwhile, to Brenda Nunez, and to her hospice nurse, Melissa, of Lawrence Visiting Nurses Association.

A memorial service for Sally Lieberman will be held on December 20, at 2 PM, in the Town Hall (main building) of Brandon Woods, 1501 Inverness. A celebration of life will be held in Dallas, TX on Tuesday, January 5, at 11 AM, at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, 7406 W. Northwest Highway.
