James “Jamie” Franklin Lowe, 60, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away suddenly on November 10, 2024. His family is devastated by this loss.
Jamie was born on September 21, 1964, in Lawrence, Kansas to Robert Nelson and Anne Louise (Stoner) Lowe. He grew up in Winona, Kansas, graduating from Triplains High School in 1983. He received degrees from the University of Kansas with a BS in Business, Graduate School of Banking and a Master’s degree in Business from Baker University. He had an unyielding thirst for knowledge, a lifelong learner, devouring books on everything from ancient civilizations to modern history.
Jamie married the love of his life, Bonnie, on June 22, 2002 in Lawrence, KS. They were married for 22 years.
He owned and operated Prairie Land Insurance in Lawrence for fourteen years, which was a family-owned business for fifty years, started by his mother Anne. He was extremely active in his community, serving as past president and current treasurer of the Lawrence Breakfast Rotary Club, serving on the board for Cottonwood Inc., United Way board member and Capital Campaign Co-Chair with Bonnie, Friends of The Lied Center board member, a vestry and current member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Audio Reader contributor of many years, a member of the KAIA Education Committee, Family Promise Committee Member, KU Alumni, graduate and board member of Leadership Lawrence and member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Jamie loved nothing more than spending time with his family, their dogs and attending KU Athletic events. He was a true outdoorsman, loving any opportunity to fish or spend time in western Kansas on his family’s land. Jamie’s legacy of lifelong learning, curiosity and dedication to preserving the past through both history and vintage cars will continue to inspire those who carry his memory forward.
He leaves behind his wife, Bonnie, their children, Nolan Lowe, Kinsey Lowe, Danielle (Joey) Farha, Taylor (Nathan) Mennel; and three grandchildren, Patrick, Olivia and Jay Farha, who affectionately called him “Papi”. Jamie is also survived by his mother, Anne Lowe and three sisters, Jane Keller, Wendy (Trevor) Curry, Julia (Brad) Steeples and sixteen nieces and nephews.
Jamie was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lowe.

It is with true sadness and shock that I write this note. If there was anyone you want to call friend, it was Jamie. Paula and I are so sorry for his passing and He will truly be missed!!
Our best to you and we are simply with you going forward.
Miles, Paula and your friends at Crown❤️
Tough, tough news. Such a quietly strong force in Lawrence and a fun guy. Crushed his drives and such good company on the golf course. A fellow fan of Sheridan’s frozen custard, Jamie had a gift for driving the topic of conversations away from himself and toward the people in his company. Was rightly proud of his wonderful wife Bonnie and children. Angie and I enjoyed going out to dinner with them and spending time with them once when with Billy Tubbs another with Tommy Lasorda. Jamie was one of those guys who didn’t have an enemy in the world. Such a loss.
Bonnie and family — Extending my sincere condolences, and holding you in my prayers at this time of loss, a loss we all feel greatly. Please lean on your many friends and admirers as much and as often as you need.
Bonnie-Our hearts ache for your loss. Our thoughts & prayers are with you during this difficult time. May God bless you. Barb & Paul Fancher

Bonnie and Family – I am so very sorry to hear about the passing of Jamie. He was truly one of the kindest people I have ever met, always so eager to find out what was going on in your life every time you spoke with him. Jamie was as genuine as one can be and you could feel that the first time you met him. In his passing, I hope that he spreads of little of that genuineness and kindness to those he touched over the years, as we sure could all use some of it. My thoughts are with you and your family during this incredible difficult time.
You will be missed my friend. I will miss that smile as if you were up to something. Usually because you were. We had some great times with the kids growing up.
Bonnie, so very sorry to hear of Jaimie‘s passing. My husband and I knew him as Rotarians. Jamie was always very supportive of my husband and had such a great sense of humor. May his memory always be a blessing to you and your family.

Dear Bonnie,
Oh, what shattering news to see Jamie’s obituary this morning. Our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. It was a privilege to have a friendship with him. It was always a delightful experience to be around him and golfing with him. I was so pleased to see you both earlier just weeks ago at Paul’s party. May God’s peace comfort you and strengthen you as you grieve through this loss. Peace my friend and RIP Jamie.
