Memorial services for Paula Dean (Dunavin) Guffey, 81, Perry, KS, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2024, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary-Eudora Chapel. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service. Paula passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.
Paula was born on December 14, 1942, in Mammoth Springs, AR the daughter of Paul and Ruth (Ryan) Dunavin. She grew up in a house surrounded with love and shared a close and special relationship with all her siblings.
Paula attended Eudora High School. She worked at Stokely Van Camp, Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant/Hercules and then retired as custodial supervisor for the University of Kansas. She loved gardening, cooking for loved ones, and spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds and cared deeply for her dogs. She also loved a variety of music along with being very interested in politics and current affairs, this interest led to her previously being a member of the Democratic National Committee.
Survivors include her companion for over 40 years, Ogene Johnson; two daughters, Tara (Gregory) Dawes, Topeka, Deborah Mellone, Lawrence, son James Easom, Lawrence; two brothers, Daniel (Peggy) Dunavin, Winter Haven, FL, Terry (Annie) Dunavin, Princeton, MO, two stepchildren, Jeannette Johnson and Marvin Johnson, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and numerous step-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many much-loved nieces, nephews and extended family along with many close friends that she had made throughout her life.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, and six siblings; Jean Colley, Rod Dunavin, Robert Dunavin, LD Dunavin, Garry Dunavin and Dennis Dunavin.
Memorial contributions may be made in Paula’s name to the Jefferson County Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Condolence to the family. Many years ago as a janitor, I was stationed at Watson Library. Paula was my supervisor. I will remember her as a kind-hearted person.
