Robert “Bob” Walden

Robert “Bob” Walden, age 88, died Nov 12, 2022 in Overland Park, Kansas.

Bob was born June 27, 1934 in Washington County, Kansas, the son of Bernard and Eleanor (Williams) Walden. He lived in the Richland, Berryton, Tecumseh, and Lawrence areas most of his life.

Following graduation from Berryton Rural High School in 1952, he married Barbara J. Reynolds in 1953. Prior to moving to Overland Park, Bob was a member of the Free Methodist church in Lawrence. He was employed for 30 years by Martin Tractor Co. in Topeka, and the last 10 years of his career for Mercantile Bank in Lawrence, retiring December 31, 1997.

Bob loved sports. After playing high school football, basketball, and baseball, he continued his athletic career playing fast pitch softball.  He was an avid fan of the Jayhawks, Royals, and Chiefs. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, and refinishing furniture. He was a craftsman with wood and made many fine pieces. Bob found great pleasure in making things beautiful.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Francis Rake. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Cindy Wampler (Don) of Overland Park, Kansas; a son, Wayne Walden (Leslie) of Euless, Texas; one granddaughter, two grandsons, and 5 great grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Earhart of Osage City, Kansas.

The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17th 2022 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to Advanced Home Health and Hospice in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    Barbara, Cindy, and Wayne, your husband and father was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. My earliest recollections of Bob go back some 50 years when we all attended church together. I remember him as a man of abiding faith. And may that same faith bring great comfort to you and your family in the days ahead. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Please accept my deepest sympathies.
