A Celebration of life for Guy Shain, DVM, 48, Wellsville, KS, will be held at 1:00 p.m., September 17, 2022 at the Church of the Resurrection West 24000 W Valley Parkway, Olathe, KS. Guy passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at his home.
Guy was born in St. John, KS on March 2, 1974, the son of Walter and Rita (Bowden) Shain.
Guy received his Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine from Oklahoma State University in 1999.
Mr. Guy was a devoted father and loving husband. He was always willing to help a friend or family member in need and his generosity knew no limits.
He enjoyed all-things tractor and working around the small family farm. He especially loved spending time with the family’s numerous animals including his beloved German Shepherd, Jarvis. A former Deacon at Eudora Baptist Church, Guy enjoyed singing as part of the worship team.
Guy was a doctor of veterinary medicine and co-owner of Eudora Animal Hospital, where he was known for his strong compassion and sense of humor. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He was a recipient of the Hunt Ball Scholarship for Outstanding Student in Equine Medicine and Surgery.
Guy married Kania Kisner on April 28, 2001 in Fenton, MO. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his two daughters, Sydney Shain and Audrey Shain; his mother, Rita Shain of Gerald, MO and two sisters, Nichole and Laurel. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter.

I’m absolutely shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of Dr Shain. He was the vet who helped us negotiate the recovery process when our horse was severely injured by a boar. My heart felt thoughts go out to the family at this of loss. I’m so very sorry.

I am in complete shock to hear of Dr. Shain’s passing. I am so grateful for his kindness every-time I saw him, and his gentle touch while treating our sweet dogs. What a very lovely human being! I’m so deeply sorry to his family! I suspect he is having a party up there with all the animals he help. Thanks for everything doctor!

Our family (including furbabies) are very saddened to hear of this loss. We only knew Dr. Shain from the care and compassion he provided us at the Eudora Animal Hospital and found him to be a wonderful human. We will never forget the time that he chuckled at/with us for being over protective “new parents” of our then puppy after we called or brought her in several times. He assured me I did everything I could for the health of my diabetic cat and those words have always given me comfort in my time of grief. I am so sorry for your loss. My Rusty boy of 13 yrs loved visiting your office. He always knew where he was as soon as we turned the corner headed to his office and couldn’t hardly wait to go in. When it was time for my Rusty to go this man and his staff were so helpful and understood how difficult it was for me. You will be missed by so many humans and animals!!! RIP!
Dear Shain family. Guy grew up next to my parents, Charles and Ruth Hendrix. They adored the curious Guy, coming over and spending time with them gardening, canning, making ice cream or just tinkering. We are shocked and saddened to find out about his passing. Our hearts are heavy with the news of Guy Shain. We have been going to Eudora Animal Hospital since we moved to Lawrence in 93. Ron Lee and Guy Shain has looked after all of our family pets. They always knew us by name and made us feel like a part of the Eudora Animal Hospital Family. It will be very emotional and difficult not to see Guy’s smiling face as he treats our family members. RIP Guy, this family will miss you very much.

Every tragedy you handled with grace, soft words and gentle heart- much like our grandfather Milton who will be waiting like so many others that died to young ! You’ve passed along that ability to others- to listen – to truly hear what others needed without them saying anything both in our beloved pets, friends and families. Always in love.

I am so sorry to hear this. My condolences and prayers to his family and friends. We always enjoyed having him check out our animals. He was the one that did a C-section on our little dog cause her babies were too big to come out naturally. It was in the middle of the night, around 2am, and we all worked together to get them out safely. He will be deeply missed, what a wonderful vet he was. May his memory be eternal!

So sorry to hear the sad news of Dr. Shane‘s passing. He was always there for routine treatment of my horses and dogs. He was always there for emergencies as well. He was there at 2 AM on a Saturday morning in five below zero weather. He will be greatly missed, Rest in peace Guy.

Dr. Shane showed compassion and kindness for me and my dog, Whinny, when it was time to say goodbye. He also helped me with what were emergencies to me with my horse. Dr. Shain took the time to connect and chat about animals. So sorry and sad to learn of his passing.

Dr. Shain and I were classmates in veterinary school. He had a generous heart and a wry sense of humor. He was always so truly kind to everyone. May the gentle healing of G-d envelope his loving wife and beloved daughters.
This idiot should have never been in the field and should have never been given a job or the opportunity to have anything to do with animals. This idiot didn’t even quality of life examination my boy or did he give the sleep cocktail before he euthanizes my dog, which was in verbal pain crying out as he died. Thankfully he removed himself from this world and its now safer for all animals.
