Memorial services for Ricky “Rick” Evan McGuire, 76, Kansas City, KS will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel in Eudora, KS. Rick passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at his home.
Rick was born on August 5, 1945, in Parsons, KS to Bert Evan and Freda (Akins) McGuire, who preceded him in death. Rick graduated from Parsons High School in 1963. He joined the US Navy in 1967, where he served in Japan for 2 years on the USS Kitty Hawk. He proudly served his country until 1971. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Rick relocated to Manhattan, KS where he met and married his beautiful wife, Pamela Ann Slusher on March 22, 1975. Early in Rick’s career he worked as a mechanic for Ryder Truck Rental. Following a heart attack at age 35, Rick had a life re-evaluation and went back to school to earn an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science. For the last 20 years he worked as a Technology Technician for the Kansas City Kansas Public Library. He retired in 2015 at the age of 70.
Rick enjoyed taking his motorcycle out on the open road.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela (Slusher) McGuire of Kansas City, KS; sons Sean McGuire (Jennifer) of Webster Groves, MO, Chris McGuire (Angela) of Kansas City, KS, Adam McGuire of Sedalia, MO, and Calvin McGuire (Lorissa) of Olathe, KS; sisters Penny (Larry) Fry, Lawrence, KS, and Paula (Pat) Haley, Topeka KS; five grandchildren-Allison, Vivian, Cadence, Maddex, and Peri; one niece, two nephews, and one great nephew.
Memorial contributions may be made in Rick’s name to National Alliance on Mental Illness and VITAS Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

So sad to learn of Rick’s passing. I was fortunate to have worked along side Rick and for a time been his supervisor. He was a kind, hardworking man who often talked of his family and military time with great love and affection.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you who called him family and friend.
I am so sorry to hear this. Rick was a great guy who I worked with at KCKPS. We found a common bond with motorcycles. We talked motorcycles while he worked on my library computer and traded pictures. Rick gave me my first Guardian Bell for my bike that I still have to this day. I could always count on him to help me or just listen. He was generous with his time, talent and expertise. Rick will truly be missed.

Very sorry to hear about rick’s passing. I just herd today, really made me sad! We had year of friend ship on the Kitty Hawk and on shore duty in Japan. We even rode our motor cycle together all over Japan together. The stories I could tell! But now not the time. Well Pam you take care of your self! God Bless You! RIP Ship Mate!

Rick was such a sweetie, I never saw that man without a welcoming smile. A rare computer tech that never made one feel stupid. Prayers and thoughts to his family, he will be missed.
Prayers of support for the family and sharing sadness for this loss. I had the pleasure of working with Rick for many years in different capacities; but, could always enjoy visiting with him as he worked diligently on solving whatever issue I was having. He shared his enthusiasm for motorcycles and we shared hopes of what retirement would be like for each of us. He was a valuable part of USD 500 and it was a pleasure knowing him.

So Sorry for your loss, I just had a brother pass away last week from cancer, I do understand your loss and I will be praying for your family.
Even though I did not spend a lot of time with Rick at working at the library, he treated me like family. He was so kind and let me know I could count on him. He left an impression on my heart as I’m sure he touched the hearts of everyone he met. The world would be a better place if we were all just a little more like Rick.
“Fair Winds and Following Seas”, Rick! You were a great friend and fellow crisis line buddy in Manhattan with me. You and Pam met, fell in love and the rest is history! We will miss you! You’ll always be special in our hearts and memories.
