Saul was such a great guy, with a love for learning and sharing his knowledge. Your family is in my prayers.
Knowing Saul was such a pleasure. I worked with him in the Math Department for twenty-eight years. He was always respectful and pleasant. He lead a very interesting life and I enjoyed listening to his stories. We miss having him around the department. My sympathies to his family.
Saul was a senior faculty member when I arrived at KU in 2005, and he was a mentor to me for many years. He will be remembered for his kindness towards his students and colleagues, not to mention his dancing and his baklava! Condolences and best wishes to his family.
Yes, the baklava! We always looked forward to him bringing two pans to our department lunches and they were eaten up immediately.
I met Saul in the final year of his life at an OURS dance and my, did he love to dance! A gracious, kind man with twinkle in his eyes and toes. OURS dancers enjoyed the opportunity to meet this lovely man. We knew Saul only briefly but he did make an impression. I wish for his family peace and solace, knowing that even strangers easily recognized a beautiful soul.

A WONDERFUL PROFESSOR!
Professor Stahl was one of my favorite professors at KU. I think I took more classes from him than any other. I remember one time in the library he saw me and stopped to speak with me about an article he was reading. It was a small random thing and I was only an undergrad at the time but he spoke with me almost as if I were a fellow mathematician which I thought was remarkably generous of him. Another time we had a long conversation about the novel Alice in Wonderland. The breadth of his knowledge was amazing. His lectures were deeply engaging and I found his style of emphasizing the historical development of mathematics to be very enjoyable. My condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed.
I am sorry for your loss!
I greatly enjoyed having him as a professor. He even came to my wedding! He will be greatly missed.
