Oh Joe, I will never forget the first time I heard you sing. It was at a Karaoke. I am not native to Lawrence, so I had NO idea you were such an accomplished musician. I remember saying after I heard you at Karaoke, GEEZ, this guy is good! You didn’t say a word. Right then, I became one of your biggest fans! “Daddys Home” will never sound the same again! Gonna miss you, my friend. 🙁
Joe was a customer of mine for many years and became a friend. He will be miss, prayers to all his family and friends !!
There are not enough words to describe how intertwined Little Joe is in our family memories. From cement work he did when we built our family home 37 yrs ago, to his music, to getting all of us hooked on his El Matador cooking, our lives were happier because of his talents and his big smile. Sending prayers and deepest condolences to his family.

I am so sorry for the loss
Joe was a great neighbor. He always had a smile and kind words. Prayers and love to your family.
Joe will always be known to me as my cousin Sonny. He was 8 months older than me so we spent our younger years growing up together. The memories of Him giving me my 16th B-day party at the Matador and of us studying for our American Goverment tests there too. Also remembering us celebrating our graduation together will always be with me. My only regret is that we lost touch with each other as we became adults. Life has a way of getting away from us and letting too much time pass. Time you can’t get back.
He was a great guy and will be missed by all. Our prayers are with his family at this time.
Rest In Peace Little Joe.
Joe and I go back a long way starting with Central Junior high. We did our Army physical together in the early 60’s. He always had that smile and was glad to see me. Prayers and condolences to the family. He will fondly missed by all who knew and loved him.
So sorry for your loss – you are all in my prayers
My Sympathy to the Reyes family! Remember so many things and times! From early yrs. to now! Joe will be missed by many !
Oh how sad to read about “”Sonny”” passing. I remember last year at your 75th birthday party there in your place, you sang and played for a long time, before bring out the cake, fun evening. R.I.P
So sorry for your loss. My prayers are with all of you and especially Raquel who we know the best. We will miss him. He can say hello to my parents and his now.
We’ll miss him!
Joe, Joe Jr and his son were one of the first families we met when we moved here from California in 2016. They put in the cement patio in the house we purchased. He was a man of his word as are his kids. We enjoyed eating at the restaurant and listening to the band. I would see him several times a year around town and he always stopped to talk. We will miss him. Our prayers go out to his family.
My condolences to all of you. I remember hearing stories from my Dad of working with Joe, finishing concrete for many years. He will be greatly missed and leaves behind so many family and friends. Continuing prayers for your Family.
Tom Eversole:
My sincere condolences to the entire family. Joe was remarkable in his vitality
and spirit of life. His talents and generosity were felt by all. Thank you Joe
for all the fond band memories of playing in “Little Joe and the Wisemen”.
TJ, Anthony, Rox, Lisa, Olivia,
I’m still stunned of Dad’s passing. He was, and always will be the life of any party, or get together. I remember when Dad pulled into the Woodlawn School parking lot just after a fresh falling snow in the old original “Little Joe and the Wiseman” window van. Dad began doing donuts in the parking lot and would just laugh. He would then let each of us, TJ, Rox, sometimes Anthony and myself have a go at it. There are just too many memories to name. I will miss him and his contagious laugh, his persona and the gift of love passed on to his children through his music. Rest in Peace Dad. May God Bless each member of his family and leave their hearts filled with many lasting memories.
We are sorry at Joe’s passing. Debbie and I enjoyed our Thursday evening with our special friend and his family. We go back many years when we first meet Joe and his parents at the 10-40 restaurant. Our friendship has continued both on a professional basis and as one you have known as a friend for about 60 years. Whether it was Joe and the Wisemen, finishing concrete or just cutting the peppers for Friday night, he always was a person that had his glass full. God bless you Joe and you family.
Prayers for the Reyes family, especially all the grandchildren, the McClean family, John, and sisters, and your mom. We know you loved your grandpa and will miss him. He’s with your grandma now and happy. God bless and comfort you all. We love you. The Breads
So sorry for your loss. Playing with Little Joe and the Wisemen was my first band experience. He was a great band leader, a very talented musician, and a friend.
I lived for many years across the alley (and to the west) of El Matador and Joe was ALWAYS very, very kind to me. We occasionally crossed paths and he would always tell me if I needed anything, just to let him know. While some people would just say that, I knew Joe actually meant it. As a single woman living alone then, I felt safer knowing I could call on him (or any of his family) if I needed help or had an emergency. Although I haven’t lived in N. Lawrence in a long time (miss it!!!) I am so saddened that Joe has passed. He and his family are in my thoughts. Peace to everyone at this sad time.
We are very sorry for you loss. Please receive our condolence’s. Your family will be in our prayer’s.
Muñoz Family. (Robert, David, Bobby and Tony)
I remember the days that Rev and I would go to El Matador on the first Saturday of the month to listen to Joe’s band. They played the “oldies but goodies” of the 50’s and 60’s. Although I don’t remember what I did yesterday, I remembered the words to those old songs. Anyone who missed Joe “Sonny” singing with his band missed a lot. I’m sorry I won’t be able to hear him again.
Papa Joe you will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers to the family.
To The Reyes Family…may he rest in pace…our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time…Mike and Rose Hadl…
