Vic, Viann, and Kiddos. Where do I start. I Loved your Mother and her humorous ways. Fate has a funny way of introducing people. Your Mom and Dad and I meet because of your Grandpa’s death. I settled the death claim for them and we all were friends from that time on. Your Mother was a special person. She loved life Loved her Jayhawks, and out of respect for her I never wore my “purple” in her home. We had a very sound business relationship and I always looked forward to a time when Norma and I would review our business, and every time it ended up discussing the Jayhawks!! God got a special Lady here. She will be cheering the Jayhawks from Heaven. God Bless you all in the loss of Norma, celebrate her life.

ViAnn, I am so very sorry to hear about your Mom. I found out too late about the services planned for her, so I wasn’t able to join you. I hope that many came to give you lots of hugs and support today as you celebrate your Mom’s life. Memories sustain us and give us relief in smiles, quiet moments, and even in laughter. Strength comes in small packages during the time that comes ahead. I will be thinking of you and your family and praying that you can now rest in your heart because she is at peace. Love you, Michele

My Aunt Norma. It has been such a long time since I have seen her and am so sad to hear of her passing. Of course, when I think of Aunt Norma, I think of Uncle Wayne! What a wonderful couple. So fun and full of life. I will miss them both dearly. Marianne Schmille Murphy

    Geraldine & Jerry Wilcox:
ViAnn and Vic, we are so sorry for your loss, she was always a joy to visit with, it was either her grandkids and of course her love for the Jayhawks.
She won’t miss the Jayhawks now as she and your Dad can watch them together.
Sorry that we missed her funeral but our prayers are with you and your families. But now she is at peace.

I am sorry to hear of Norma’s passing. I have several memories of her and me.

We use to have big Family dinners; at least 12 to 15 people at the table. I would have been 6-9 years old, Norma 3 years older. We would look at each other during dinner and would get giggles; we were told to stop, but we just got louder. My Dad took me into the bedroom. Nothing happened to Norma. I still smile thinking of it.

I remember the many times I would see her on the John Deere B tractor in the field cultivating corn – Hot dusty job. She was always trying to help her folks, and get a sun-tan.

    One more memory …

On big snowy days our high school never closed. Mr. Wherry, the principal lived only a half a block away, so we had school. There was extreme weather back in the late 50’s winters that resulted in deep snow. During one of these major storms, the roads were pretty bad, so Dad and I pre-positioned his car at the Wilcox’s the night before because that is where the snow removal stopped. I drove our tractor (with chains on the tires) to the Wilcox’s house, and then drove our car to school on 11th street, which had fewer hills and was cleared. One of these times, I was on 15th street near the old Kaw Valley School and saw Norma on her way to work stuck in a snowdrift. I had a chain with me and pulled her out – was at least 5-foot high drift. She was very thankful and said she didn’t think she was going to make it to work, at the dentist’s office. I followed her on my way to the Wilcox’s, she made it okay, so did I. Got to school and my first-hour class was half empty!

Bye Norma, you were my favorite cuz –

    Bob Altenbernd
