Grace Elizabeth Burden Hubbel

Grace Elizabeth Burden Hubbel, 77, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017 at Kansas University Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held at Warren McElwain Mortuary on Wednesday, June 7th at 2 p.m.

Grace was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born July 15, 1939 in Santa Anna, Texas. Daughter of Homer Alvin (Sye) and Myrtle Louise (Cantrell) Burden. She attended Liberty Memorial High School and received her nursing degree from Kansas City Community College.

Grace enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed quilting, reading, traveling and telling a good story. Her furry family members went almost everywhere she did. She loved them too.

Grace had great stories from and made lifelong friends while working at Hallmark Cards. After receiving her nursing degree, she enjoyed working at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and Brandon Woods. Her work with the elderly was unsurpassed. She had such compassion and truly cared for every one of her patients.

Survivors include her sister, Mary (Lyndale) Rea of Morgan’s Point, TX. A daughter, Lannie Hubbel of Lawrence; two sons, Dan (Rhonda)Hubbel, and Dave (Kim) Hubbel of Baldwin City. Eight grandchildren; Joshua and Chance Smith, Michael, Brian, Riley, Kyrstan and Haydon Hubbel and Davon Davis. Eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her lifelong friend, Priscilla Hedges.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Douglas County United Way, Lawrence Humane Society, or the Lawrence Public Library and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    Grace was one of the nice’s ladies I’ve ever met and a Joy to Know.
    I’m sorry for the journey she had to take, I know She did it with Grace.
    I’m so sorry I didn’t get to spend more time with her.

Her kindness and caring for all her patients and the love she had for a job well done helped shape my career. She will not be forgotten.Blessings to all.
