A Memorial Gathering for Judith Ann Pettaway, 66, Lawrence, will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2009, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. She died Thursday, December 10, 2009, at her home.
She was born January 31, 1943, in Houston, TX the daughter of J. E. and Rita Locascio Pettaway.
Judith lived in the Middle East, Lebanon and Greece for several years. Upon returning to the United States, she worked for the State of Louisiana in Social Services. Judith was involved in the Carnival Organizations in New Orleans, where she rode horseback in Mardi Gras parades. She loved animals and was involved with the Humane Society. Judy moved to Lawrence following the flooding of New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina.
She is survived by a sister, Barbara Pettaway Page, New Orleans, LA; a niece, Courtney and her husband, Donald Wright, Lawrence, a nephew Robert James Page, New Orleans, LA; a great-nephew, Cooper Wright, Lawrence.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Douglas County Visiting Nurses or to Health Care Access and sent in care of the mortuary.

Judith and I worked together for DSS for about five years in Algiers. After she retired, we would meet once monthly with our friends Nila and Marilyn to have lunch. I looked for her in the years after Hurricane Katrina. I am sorry to have found her in this way, but God knows best. She would often say “I am ready to go, I miss my mommy.” Rest in Peace Judith
So sorry to read about Judith’s passing this week (03-28/15) as I was preparing to visit New Orleans and took a look on Google to try to locate her in hopes of reconnecting. We were good friends in 1985 in New Orleans and then lost touch when I moved back to Chicago. Sorry I lost contact with her around that time as we had a good time discussing Native American events and had a lot in common. God Bless you Judith.
