Willis M. McCorkill

Funeral service for Willis M. McCorkill, 90, Lawrence will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2017 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. He passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Pioneer Ridge Health Center.

He was born on February 1, 1927 in Topeka the son of Walter M. and Helen (Crites) McCorkill.

Willis serviced his country in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean War.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post #14, 40&8, Lawrence Masonic Lodge #6, and Scottish Rite.

A fixture on “The Hill” for many years, Willis delivered mail on the KU campus, then served as a bus driver for KU on Wheels after retiring from the U.S. Postal Service.

He married Marian Lea Hines June 2, 1957 in Lawrence. She preceded him in death December 10, 1998.
Survivors include, his daughters, Linda McCorkill and Laura McCorkill, both of Lawrence; and brother, Walter Louis McCorkill, Rock Hill, SC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald M. McCorkill.

The family will greet friends at 10 a.m. Friday, March 3rd one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the First Baptist Church or American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    Sorry to hear of your loss. My father, Walter Bryant, also worked for many years at the Post Office with “Fuzz”, as my dad liked to refer to him. I know that he also transported my dad to and from KU Med Center about 10 years ago for medical testing. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
