William M. Seaver

William M. Seaver (1950-2020)

Bill was born on August 28, 1950 in Lawrence, Kansas. He was one of three sons of James and Virginia (Stevens) Seaver.

He was an avid reader as a child and, in the highly competitive Seaver family, he excelled in bowling and pool. His father and brother Avi were both pocket billiards champions at the University of Kansas, but Bill was recognized as the best pool player in the family. The entire family bowled in leagues and Bill competed in the Nationals as a teenager and placed in the top ten nationally. At the Seaver home the culture of playing all types of games was most evident in the love of playing cards. Bill would go on to spend most of his professional life as a croupier and a professional poker player. He lived almost his entire life in Lawrence, Kansas and northern California.

Bill’s interest in games of all types was only equaled by his lifelong interest in music. He studied music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He particularly loved the blues and all types of guitar music. He was devoted to live music and attended as many live events as possible.

But nothing was more important to Bill than his family and friends. He was devoted to his three children, Jennifer, Jaya and Jesse. After the death of his father, the last few years of Bill’s life were spent taking care of his mother, which he did with singular devotion.

Bill will be missed by his family and his many friends with whom he shared an abiding love of music.

His is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Johnston, Jaya (Chris) Del Sordo, his brother Robert Seaver, four grandchildren, Jordan Del Sordo, Chase, Payton and Mason Meyers, his nephew Joshua Seaver and sisters-in-law Nancy and Barbara Seaver.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jesse Seaver, and brother, Avi Seaver.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Visiting Nurses and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS. 66044.
