Victor Dale Johnson

Victor D. Johnson, age 81, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Victor will be lying in state on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 10:00 am ~ 7:30 pm, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary with a Rosary Recitation starting at 5:00 pm. Family will be present from 5:00 pm ~ 7:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday March 31 at 10:00am at St. Lawrence Catholic Center, 1631 Crescent Road, Lawrence, KS 66044. Burial for Vic will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Atwood, Kansas.

He was born on July 27, 1939 in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Victor and Gladys Johnson. Vic had four older sisters. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1957, and he graduated from Fort Hays State University with a BS in Business Administration. Vic enjoyed 25 years of a career in banking, several years in Commercial Real Estate, and he retired in 2001.

Vic married the love of his life, Patricia L. Stehno, on July 14, 1962. This union was blessed with two daughters, Miriam and Marty. Vic and Pat enjoyed 58 wonderful years of happiness together. They loved to travel. Their favorite vacations spots were Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Aruba, and many different areas of the United States.

God and family were Vic’s top priorities. His faith and his family were the two most important things in his life. He loved hunting, dancing, singing, reading, playing card games, watching John Wayne movies, spending time with his grandchildren, and his favorite…telling stories!

Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Gladys Johnson; four sisters, Dorothy Pharris, Glennis Gilmore, Lois Lemke and Merlyn Sumpter.

Vic is survived by his wife, Pat Johnson of Lawrence; two daughters, Miriam Hampton of Shawnee, Kansas and Denis Rockers of Overland Park, Kansas and Marty Simmons and husband Doug Simmons of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Peterson and husband Scott Peterson, Logan Hampton, Catherine Simmons, Anna Simmons, and Grace Simmons.

Memorial contributions may be made in Victor’s name to St. Lawrence Catholic Center, 1631 Crescent Road, Lawrence, KS 66044 or St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Kentucky Street, Lawrence, KS 66044 or Holy Family School of Faith, 13240 Craig Street, Overland Park, KS, 66213 and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    I worked with Vic at University State Bank, what a sweet man he was!!!!! He loved to tell stories and loved his family!! He was kind and honest, traits to be admired and I certainly admired that man!!! I’ll be he’s telling stories now and laughing at those gone before him!!!
