Vernon “Bud” Leonard Hadl

A special mass will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church at a later date for Vernon “Bud” Leonard Hadl, 75, Lawrence, KS. Vernon passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Bud was born on March 9, 1946, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Leonard and Irene (Lutz) Hadl.

He graduated from Eudora High School in 1963. After graduation, he served in the US Army Reserves.

He was not only a life-long farmer, he also worked as a sheet metalist at Cloud Heating and Air Conditioning in Lawrence, Kansas and Kansas University.

He enjoyed woodworking and restoring and painting old tractors. He was an avid animal lover, who also enjoyed spending time with his family.

He married Mary Jo Frye on November 20, 1965, in Eudora, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his children, Kevin Hadl, Kristina (Stephen) Hadl-Hurt; sisters, Shirley Steffen, Yvonne Hadl; grandchildren, Brandy Hadl, Justin Hurt, Amanda Brouhard; and three great-grandchildren.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bud’s name to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter in Ottawa, KS or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    Mary Jo. I have fond memories of Bud and our youth. Life has taken us all on winding paths and showered us with his mercy. My prayers these days, many years removed, are that Bud is now in God’s loving arms.

    I went to Holy Family School with “Buddy”, as well as Eudora High School. I remember him as a quiet, and gentle soul. May God’s eternal light shine upon him.
