Thomas “Tom” W. Miesse, 77, was born in 1947, in Lawrence, KS, the son of Max and Margaret (Ogden) Miesse. He passed away in Eudora, KS on July 22, 2024.
Tom spent his early adult life in California, receiving a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Whittier College in Whittier, CA in 1969, his MA from San Diego State University in 1975 and his PhD from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1984 where he became an assistant professor for a time. Cairo, Egypt was his home for a research project as part of his doctoral studies.
Tom received his Eagle Scout at the age of 13 and loved to surf near his home in Carlsbad, CA. He was a member of the Lancer Society at Whittier College; was a member of the American Anthropological Association and The Middle East Studies Association.
He retired as the Director of Research for the Midwest for the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. His love of world-wide travel both for business and pleasure was the highlight of his adult life.
Tom is survived by his cousins and a host of extended family and friends.
