Sydney chose to be cremated. In lieu of a traditional service, the family will hold a Celebration of Life in the East Gallery of the Carnegie Building, 200 W. 9th St., Lawrence, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Mom loved colors, and the family encourages others to join us in wearing bright colors to celebrate mom. Instead of flowers, the family recommends donations to the March of Dimes or the Douglas County Democratic Party.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living staff, LMH Floor 2 North nursing staff, Doctors Harms, Luke Huerter, and Marcellino, and Ascend Hospice Care for their kindness, compassion, and excellent care of our mom.

Leslie & family–Thinking of you and hope you are remembering times that bring a smile to your faces. She raised a strong daughter who I have no doubt she was proud of (your grandmother certainly was!) When I mark my ballot for Harris/Walz & the other down ballot Democrats, I’ll be doing it for her as well.

What a lovely remembrance of Sydney’s life and contributions! Thinking of her extended family during this time of tremendous loss.

I second Carol Ann Robb’s comments. I enjoyed knowing Sydney and her mother for many years and thought of them as strong independent women. In college I remember during the National bra burning movement to declare more rights for women, Sydney created a quilt of women’s bras for an art project to emphasize the movement. Sydney was a creative, thoughtful and loving friend.

Leslie and Tara, of all best daughters, you are tops. Your care of Sydney during her decline and your execution of a meaningful and lovely celebration of life were tributes to a fine mother. You can take great pride in yourselves. I always enjoyed being around Sydney.
