Suzanne (Sue) Padgett

Suzanne (Sue) Padgett of Lawrence, Kansas passed away Sunday, April 16th, 2023. She was born March 7, 1934, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was the first child born to Florence J. Summerville and Ward W. Summerville. In 1952, Sue graduated from Shawnee Mission (North) in Merriam, Kansas and in 1956 received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma social sorority, serving as President for one term.

On December 23, 1957, she married Gary W. Padgett of Greenleaf, Kansas. Three children were born to this union. Pamela Sue Padgett, Bradley K. Padgett, and Brent R. Padgett. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and brother, Ward Summerville, Jr. and her daughter, Pamela Sue Padgett.  She is survived by her husband, Gary W. Padgett and her sons, Bradley K. Padgett and Brent R. Padgett; and six grandchildren.

Sue founded the Friendship Club of The Citizens National Bank and was also a Director of the same institution. Sue was extremely involved in Greenleaf and civic activities.

Viewing will be held at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 West 13th Street, Lawrence, Kansas on Wednesday, April 19th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with funeral services at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf, Kansas on Thursday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m., with burial following at the Greenleaf City Cemetery, Greenleaf, Kansas. 

Memorial contributions may be made in Sue’s name to the University of Kansas Endowment Association (KUEA), Lawrence, Kansas and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
