Stephen Wayne Waisner

Graveside services for Stephen Wayne Waisner, 54, Lawrence, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at Clinton Cemetery, 1203 E 500 Rd, Lawrence, Kansas 66049.

Mr. Waisner passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from this world into heaven on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was at peace and surrounded by his family.

Steve was born December 7, 1968, in Lawrence, Kansas, the youngest son of Earl “Wayne” Waisner and Carol Ann Weaver Waisner. Steve was named after his father.  He attended Wakarusa Valley Elementary, South Junior High and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1986.

Following graduation, Steve worked as a home builder in the Kansas City area for many years.

He was united in marriage with Tiffany Lee Worley on August 14, 1995 in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Steve was an active baseball player growing up in the Lawrence area where he started playing at DCABA at 5 years old as a catcher and continued playing until high school.

He was an excellent cook learning this skill from his mother and being known for his famous pancakes and McWaisners for breakfast as well as his fried zucchini.  Steve dearly loved and was especially proud of his successful wife, daughters and young grandchildren.  He was affectionately known as “Popo” to his grandchildren.  He enjoyed planting his vegetable garden and tending the flowers – especially Tiffany’s treasured tuberoses.  He also enjoyed everything outdoors with fishing as his passion.

In recent years, Steve was able to purchase and modify a Jeep TJ of his own which he named “Howler” that accurately described the loud sound the 40” tires made traveling down the road.  Howler rides with the music blaring were one of their favorite things of his two oldest grandchildren, Molly Kate and Gavin, with their Popo.

Survivors include his wife Tiffany Waisner of Lawrence, mother, Carol Waisner of Lawrence, daughters, Christina Black and husband Cody of Des Moines, Iowa, Sarah Waisner of Blue Springs, Missouri, brother Scott Waisner and wife Jeanne of Lawrence, grandchildren, Gavin Black, Molly Kate Black and Collins Black all of Des Moines, Iowa and his trusty dog, Kyra.  In addition, he had a large family of beloved aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.  Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Steve was preceded in death by his father in 2020; as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents in prior years.

In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe account has been set up to help with funeral expenses.  Link:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/paying-tribute-to-stephen-waisner?utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1&utm_content=undefined&utm_medium=sms&utm_source=customer&utm_term=undefined.
