Stanley “Stan” Harris

Funeral services for STANLEY “STAN” W.  HARRIS, 84, of Lawrence, KS will be at 11 a.m,.Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in
Memorial Park Cemetery.  Mr. Harris died at his home on Thursday, April 15, 2010.

Stanley was born on Oct. 10, 1925 in Lawrence, the son of Fred H and Edith (Swisher) Harris. He graduated from Liberty High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in 1969.

He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was an Engineer Manager at
Hercules, retiring in 1985.  He was instrumental in helping to establish the Eagle Bend Golf Course.

Stan was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a past president of the Church council
and Director of Decade of Progress. He also belonged to the Dorsey Liberty Post # 14, American Legion, the Mt. Oread Aerie #309, FOE (Eagles), and the Jaycees.

He married Shirley Mae Acher on November 20, 1945 in Lawrence.  She preceded him in death on August 30, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his son, Lt. Russell L. Harris on Feb. 11, 1969 in Vietnam.

He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl A. Merrill, Lawrence, KS; two sons, Bryan D. Harris, Lawrence and Stanley W. Harris Jr., Dallas,TX; and six grandchildren, Russell, Tom, Kevin, and Melinda Harris and Robert and Bryan Merrill; and five great-grandchildren, Joey Lynn Yeager, Hunter, Rylee, Collin, and Lyam Harris.

The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30pm on Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Memorials may be made in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church and sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

    I just read about your loss.
    My name is Glen Dykes II. I knew you from a Lutheran church and school in SLC.
    Are you still as fast as you were? Do you remember Principal Ebke? He used to lift his car off the ground .
