Robert G. Hilt

Robert G. Hilt, 96, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at LMH Health. A family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence, KS.

Robert was born on February 1, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas to Alfred and Amphy Hilt. When Robert was 18 years old, he was called to serve in World War II. He was very proud of his service to his country as a B-17 tail gunner.

When he left the service, Robert met the love of his life, Billie Barron. They were married 71 years until her passing in March of 2020. Robert had a long career in construction and owned a cabinet shop for many years.

Survivors include a sister Alta Ola; his children, Steve (Sandie) Hilt, Matt (Cindy) Hilt, Dana (Jeff) Shoemaker; six grandchildren, Heather (Shawn) Henson, Spencer (Julia) Hilt, Jessica & Emily Hilt, Zachary and Bailey Shoemaker; and a great grandson, Jack. Robert was preceded in death by a grandson, Christian and seven brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the American Diabetes Association and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

    I’m so sorry for your loss???? Robert Hilt was my favorite uncle and l loved him dearly. I’m the youngest son of Alfred Hilt, One of Roberts brother. On behalf of my brother Norman Grant Hilt, Jodie Woodson Hilt, and Kathleen Wiggins Hilt we all have you and your family in our minds with love and prayers ????????????

    I will miss seeing him at the shop he was a hard working man in my eyes and was willing to teach you what he knew about woodworking I pray for all the family during this time

    Iam so sorry for the loss of Robert, my sincere condolences to the family. It was my pleasure to be Roberts Barber and good friend for many years. He never failed to ask about my Grandmother ( a WW2 Vet’s widow) and how she was doing. We always had a good visit whenever he came in. He was a fine man and will be greatly missed.
