Robert E. Arnold

Robert E. Arnold was born February 18,1931 in KCMO (Trinity Lutheran Hospital). Robert died February 4, 2025, peacefully at home in Lawrence, Kansas.

He attended Francis Willard Elementary and Paseo High in KC, MO and University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. Robert served four years in the US Navy during the Korean War.

Proceeded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Elizabeth (Griffith) Arnold and parents Cleda M. Arnold and James B. Arnold Sr. Survived by his brother James B. Arnold Jr. of Prairie Village, one daughter Catherine Hilliard (James), Lawrence and two sons Michael Durner (Joan), Lawrence and Robert E. Arnold Jr.(Amanda), Eudora along with 9 grandchildren, Sara Hilliard, Alexandra Hilliard, Michaela Durner, Megan Durner, Jacob Durner, Madison Arnold, Brant Arnold, Claire Arnold and Zachary Arnold.

Other than his wife his grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He was affectionately known to them as “Grandy” and regularly attended and supported the activities they enjoyed.

He retired in 1990 after working 30 years in the US Postal Service in Shawnee Mission, KS. His favorite sport was golf, and he enjoyed going to auctions and antiquing in retirement. Robert was a big sports fan of the Chiefs, Royals, Tom Watson and especially the KU Jayhawk Basketball team.

Services will be on Monday, February 17th, with a visitation from 8 – 10 am followed by a program at 10 am at Warren-McElwain Mortuary at 120 West 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044. 

Robert will be laid to rest at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe, KS afterwards.

The family suggests memorials in Robert’s name to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Dream Factory of Kansas City and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary 120 W. 13th St. Lawrence, KS  66044.
