Memorial services for Richard “Dick” J. Bennett, 88, Lawrence, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. He died May 28, 2010 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence. Mr. Bennett had recently moved to Lawrence from South Bend, Indiana, where he had lived for over 30 years.
Dick was born December 16, 1921 in Springfield, Illinois the son of John and Flora Bennett.
He served his country in the Army during World War II. He worked as a mechanical engineer contributing to both automobile and aerospace industries.
Dick married Helen McCraw on December 28, 1941 in Springfield, Illinois. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Carol Seager of Lawrence, KS; four grandchildren, Wendy Rea, David Seager, Kim Griffin, Kelly Peterson and nine great-grandchildren, Heather, Gavin, Allison, Jared, Bennett, Connor, Sara, Mason, and Griffin.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dick Bennett.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society or to the South Bend Ret Refuge and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
