Richard “Dick” Price Benton

Memorial services for Richard “Dick” Price Benton, 82, Lawrence, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 6, 2018, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at his home, with his wife and daughter by his side.

He was born July 1, 1935, in St. Joseph, MO, the son of G.I. and Geneva (Caldwell) Benton. He graduated from Hiawatha High School, Hiawatha, KS, and Westmar College, LaMar, IA.

He pastored several churches in Eudora, KS, which is where he met, and then married Deanne Wilson, on December 31, 1961. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Lawrence, where he sold insurance and real estate for over 40 years. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and was ALWAYS ready to stop at a garage sale and look at antiques.

His wife, Deanne, survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughter, Dorinda Dee, and her husband, Mike Spencer, Overland Park, KS; three grandsons, Andrew Benton, Joseph Benton, and Joshua Benton; three step- granddaughters, Ali Spencer, Brynley Spencer, and Olivia Spencer; two brothers-in-laws, Jim Wilson, and his wife, Marilyn, Eudora, KS, and Gary Wilson, and his wife, Stephanie, Overland Park, KS, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Ivan Laverne Benton and Ronald Benton.

The family will greet friends beginning at 2:00 p.m., until the service.

Memorial Contributions may be made in his name to Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation, and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
