Randall (Randy) Frank

Randall (Randy) Frank, 63, departed this life Sunday, December 30, 2018 at his home in rural Leavenworth Co. surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. January 4, 2019 at Rev City Church located at 700 Wakarusa Dr., Lawrence, KS.

Randy was born on June 23, 1955 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Patrick Paul and Shirley (Sue) Cole Frank.

He graduated from high school at Hutchinson High as did his wife to be, Judy. They grew up together in the same area and knew each other as children. He then graduated from Fort Hays State in 1978. On July 28, 1979, he married Judy K. Evans in Hutchinson, Kansas. She survives of the home. After college, Randy began a long career of selling heavy construction equipment throughout the state of Kansas. The last 25 years, he sold for Road Builders Machinery and Supply Co. out of Kansas City. In 1999, Randy purchased a lake property (without telling his wife until after the fact) naming it Lake Loski Dog. This lake has been a center of family activities and provided years of fun for his family and friends. Throughout his life, he was an avid outdoors man, and shared that love with his children and friends. Randy spent several years coaching his son and others in the Lawrence Kids Wrestling Program; as well as, many years cheering for his daughter on the softball field. He loved giving his grandchildren rides on the tractor and taking them fishing for their first time. Whether he was traveling near or far, life was always good with his family by his side. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and mentor.

Other survivors include his mother, Shirley Frank Murphy, of Hutchinson; his daughter, Emily Anne Caplinger (Jesse) of Kansas City, KS; his son, Kyle Evans Frank (Katie) of Olathe, KS; a sister, Cindy Lewis (Doug) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; his mother and father-in-law, Milton and Mardell Evans Hutchinson and two grandsons, Kale Patrick Caplinger and Evan Marshall Caplinger.

He was preceded in death by his father. Memorial Contributions may be made in his name to Cancer Action Cancer Action: 10520 Barkley #100, Overland Park KS 66212 913-642-888 and sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary. For more information or to post your condolences, go to warrenmcelwain.com.

So sorry to hear this sad news. Thinking of all of you. Sometimes you’re unfairly left with two crappy choices … watching someone you love suffer or knowing that you love them so much that you have to let them go. The pastor at our KC church often repeated this quote: “The worst thing is never the last thing.” I hope you can hang on to that thought and focus on so many special memories full of smiles, laughs, jokes and general orneriness to help you heal and be Randy’s living legacy.

Judy, I was saddened to hear of Randy’s passing. He was a great friend. It’s been a long time since we shared the porch/deck that led to our duplex. You and Randy were the first people we met in moving to Garden City some 38 ish years ago. I know from my short time with you and Randy next door that you have a lifetime of great smiles, laughs, and memories to sustain you in this tough part of life. God bless you Judy, Emily, and Kyle

Judy and family, I left you a note on your Facebook page but also wanted to leave a note here. I am so saddened to hear of Randy’s illness and then his passing. He was so much fun and ornery and full of life! I know you and Emily and Kyle have a huge hole in your heart at this time but I also know that will heal in time. Randy was full of life and we know he’ll live on through you and his children and especially his beautiful grandkids. Love you more than you know my sweet friend! Prayers for all!

Judy and family, that tractor seat may be empty for a while but will soon be filled by one of those precious grandchildren some day. Simply because that is the essence of your dear husband and dad. He lead a life of love, joy and honesty as his legacy. He will always be with you in thought, word and deed because he will always be a part of you. The best of you.

  57. Dru Davidson on January 3, 2019 at 11:39 pm

I’ve been so fortunate to call Randy Frank my good friend . I’m thankful for the countless conversations and time with him over the last twenty years . Randy loved his family and enjoyed every minute with them . He was crazy about his wife Judy …just about the time Randy would get serious about a topic Judy would say something to crack him up . Often times when we would be in the middle of a serious conversation about a deal that he or I was working on at Roadbuilders , Judy would make a hilarious statement and he would look at me with that awesome Frank smirk and say Druman …you see what I’m dealing with here and we would all Crack up ! Then there is Emily and Kyle …there’s never been a Dad more proud of his kids accomplishments and character . Then the grandkids came along and wow you want to talk about a proud Papa ! Randy truly was an amazing family man . Randy was passionate about his work at Roadbuilders … even through the difficulties of this last year he looked forward to taking care of his customers . Randy was a true outdoorsman …he enjoyed fishing , hunting , bird dogs , gardening , splitting wood , you name it he did it . Randy Frank lived a great life and left us all with wonderful memories that I will always cherish . Man we had a lot of fun !
