Ramona Marie Smith

Ramona Marie Smith, 88, of Lawrence, Kansas passed away in Osage Beach, Missouri on April 4, 2017.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 pm, Monday, April 10, 2017, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Ramona was born in Ottawa, Kansas on November 20, 1928. She was the daughter of Ralph and Marjorie Hayden. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence.

Ramona was married to Joe Smith on October 23, 1948 in Lawrence. They shared over 43 years together at the time of Joe’s death in 1992.

Ramona and Joe started Joe’s Bakery in 1952 and they continued ownership until 1981. Their son Ralph, purchased the bakery and owned it from 1981 – 2005. Ramona enjoyed the work and relationships she established with the many people that worked with her. She worshiped at the Free Methodist and Mustard Seed churches. Ramona moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in 2010 with her son Ralph and daughter-in-law Rachel. She lived in an independent living facility until her death.

Ramona is survived by three children, Martha, Lucinda and Ralph; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Ramon was preceded in death by her husband Joe; and her brother, Ellis Hayden in 2010.

    I am so sorry to hear about my favorite aunt’s death. I alaways stopped on my way to Lake Orzak, each May, to visit. Im so sorry Ralph that you didn’t answer my call to tell you of my grief.Know you were very busy making arangment for you mother funeral.
