Graveside funeral services for Prince A. Tyler, 78, of Lawrence, Ks. will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. Mr. Tyler died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Windsor Place in Lawrence.
He was born December 19, 1931 in Harrisonville, Missouri the son of Fred and Grace A. (Meyer) Tyler.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict.
He retired from Securitas in 2004 as a security officer. He had previously worked for Sunflower Ammunition, Meyer Lumber in Merriam, Kansas and the Diamond Lumber Company in Lawrence.
He was a member of the Dorsey-Liberty Post # 14, American Legion and Alford-Clark Post # 852, V.F.W., both in Lawrence. He was a former member of the Teamsters Union.
He was married to Lois Idell Irwin for 15 years and they had five children. He later married Geraldine Patterson on July 29, 1970 in Reno, Nevada. She survives of Lawrence.
Other survivors include three daughters, Diane Smith and her husband Gary of Kansas City, Kansas, Carol Gray and her husband, Gene of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, Karen Tyler and her husband, Brian of San Antonio, Texas; three sons, Cecil Miller and his wife, Terry, of Smithville, Missouri, Dennis Tyler of Lawrence, Kansas, Stephen Tyler Sr. and his wife, Betty of Lawrence, Kansas; one brother Herman Tyler of Arcadia, Kansas; one sister Shirley of California; 12 grandchildren, Matthew, Marissa, Jessica, Amanda, Justin, Stephen Jr., Michael, Tonya, Amy, Pam, Laura and Rebecca; numerous great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild.
The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. The family suggests memorial contributions to Heart of America Hospice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
