Phyllis Diane Cawrey

Graveside inurnment for Phyllis Diane Cawrey, 92, was held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence, KS. Phyllis passed away March 3, 2025, at her home.

Phyllis was born October 31, 1932, in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Clarence J. and Lora E. (Schlottman) Mesker.

She married Philip Cawrey on September 6, 1951, in Las Vegas, NV and he preceded her in death on March 4, 2014.

Phyllis was a kind, loving, compassionate faithful steward of Christ. She loved her family with fierce protective love and devotion. She loved listening to Christian music and reading her Bible. Her mission in life was to always give back through volunteer work. Her greatest passion was the Alpha Christian Children’s Home.

Throughout Phyllis’ faith filled work, she made parachutes to drop Bibles into impoverished countries. And helped donate Bibles to prisoners.

She was a beautiful seamstress and loved to sew. Often donating pillows and sewing pillowcases for the homeless shelters.

Phyllis lived a full life. She traveled to Europe with her husband Phil. In her 70s she walked full marathons for Leukemia in honor of her brother Ron. In her 80s she swam with the dolphins in Hawaii. For her 90th Birthday she went on a zipline adventure in the Colorado mountains. Oh what a wonderful life!

Phyllis was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. She had a beautiful smile that lit up the room she entered. She did everything in her life with love and grace. She was the BEST Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend.

Phyllis is survived by her three children: son, Steve, daughter, Cathi and husband Dann, and daughter, Caroline. She had eight wonderful grandchildren: Aimee, Elizabeth, Daniel, Cameron, Brandon, Megan, Amanda and Kevin (who preceded her in death).  Eight great-grandchildren: Zachary, Kaylee, Matthew, Paisley, Savannah, Kensington, Ryker, Cooper. And a brother, David Mesker.

Phyllis was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Roy, Richard and Ronald Mesker.

Phyllis and Phil (her lifelong love) taught each of us the true meaning of Love and marriage. They are finally reunited and Dancing~
