The family of Mrs. Peggy Jane Miller of Lawrence, Kansas are saddened to announce her passing June 7, 2024 at her home in Arbor Court.
Peggy Jane Miller was born May 27, 1932 in Wakeeney, Kansas. She was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wayman Keefer. Peggy Keefer graduated from University High School in Lawrence. She married Norman “Pod” Miller of Lawrence on February 3, 1952. Peggy and “Pod” Miller owned and managed Pod’s Discount Carpet in Lawrence for many years. They moved several times in the Lawrence area, finally settling at “Pod’s Little Acres” in nearby Lecompton, Kansas. Peggy was an avid animal lover, surrounding herself with nature’s wonderful creatures including horses, goats, chickens, dogs and cats. She loved them all and took care of them in the hottest summers and coldest winters without hesitation. Peggy is survived by her daughters Vickie Smith of Tonganoxie and Debbie Ritchie and husband Doug of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, her son Darren Miller and wife Pam of Perry, her grandson Scott Ritchie of Niceville, Florida, along with her granddaughters Sarah Smith of Tonganoxie and Shannon Smith of North Dakota. As they were growing up, the grandchildren remember Peggy as a fun and energetic grandmother. The family cherishes all the good times with Peggy over the years, enjoyed hearing her family history stories from Kansas and Oklahoma, and visiting the places of her childhood with her.
The family will receive relations and friends from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Memorial Service will be held at 10am on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Warren McElwain Mortuary, followed by burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, so that Peggy can be laid to rest close to Pod.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
I’m sorry for your loss. It’s definitely hard to lose your mom. May your happy memories of your mom and dad help to sustain you during this difficult time.
