She moved to Lawrence, KS a few years later and resided with her older sister. It was during this time that she met her future husband, John Gilroy. They were married on October 19, 1944, in Pensacola Florida. After the end of John’s military service during WWII, they returned to the Midwest, living briefly in Vinton, Iowa and Mound City, KS before settling in Eudora in 1955.
After raising her children, Pauline worked for 15 years at the Eudora Public Library. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Society at Holy Family Catholic Church, served on the Eudora Public Library Board, and was an election poll worker for several years. She was an excellent seamstress and in her later years found much enjoyment in making American Girl doll clothes for friends and family.
Survivors include her children, Cathy Johnson, Connie (Chip McConnell) Gilroy, Jim (Joleen) Gilroy, son-in-law, Rick Crews, daughter-in-law, Linda Gilroy, nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings, husband, John Gilroy, children, Colette Foster, Carolyn Crews, Cyrilla Loria, J.C. Gilroy, and sons-in law, Randy Johnson and Al Loria.

JO, sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. What a sweet and wonderful lady. Prayers for your family.
Jim, we did not have the pleasure of meeting Mrs Gilroy but we heard a lot about her. Sounds like she was full of vim and vinegar.
We are sorry for the family. Bob and I have both lost our Mother’s. We miss them everyday. Thinking of you and your family during your time of sorrow.
We will miss Pauline very much. The priviledge of being Pauline and John’s next door neighbor and friend has been ours for the last 47 years. Pauline was an expert on “old town Eudora’s “ history, and was delightful to share and visit with.
RIP Pauline
Cathy, Connie, Jim and family, I’m sorry to read of the loss of your mom. I know it’s been a difficult few years for you. I think of you often. I hope you don’t hesitate to reach out to me if there’s anything I can do.
JO and family, What a treasure. Your mom was such a friend to me after my mom passed in 1977. The visits we used to have in the library as well as her recommending books for me to read. I loved her cheekiness. My thoughts with you all.
Sending our thoughts and prayers to your family during this difficult time.
We are sorry for your loss.
