Patricia Ann Hopper

Patricia Ann Hopper, (nee Tierney), age 90, Lawrence, Kansas passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019. She was born on August 9, 1929, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to the late William F and Pauline Tierney. She was a 1947 graduate of St Mary’s Catholic High School in Pittsburg, Kansas. She married the late David C. Hopper, June 14, 1947, in Pittsburg, Kansas. Patricia loved singing, music, reading, and is a published author. She volunteered her time with the Audio-Reader program with the University of Kansas recording books for the visually impaired. She is the mother of six, grandmother of 14, and great grandmother of 32.

She was an active member of the Holy Family Church of Eudora, Kansas where her generosity and kindness of spirit showed through with her support of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and her weekly tithing to the church. She retired from the City of Lawrence, 1989, where her career spanned being the first female meter reader to becoming secretary to the Director of Finance.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David C. Hopper, one son, Michael D. Hopper, one daughter, Carol A. Brown, two sons-in-law; Kenneth Folks and Michael Scruggs, one grandson; Ian Hopper, one great granddaughter; Lorraine Brooks, her parents, and 5 siblings. She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Scruggs, Lawrence, Kansas, Margaret Folks, Eudora, Kansas, and two sons James Hopper (wife Karen), Kansas City, Missouri, and Samuel Hopper (wife Janice), Topeka, Kansas.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel, Eudora, Kansas, Friday August 9, 2019. The family requests bringing 90th birthday cards for Patricia Hopper to the Rosary/Visitation.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10th, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Eudora, Kansas. Burial in the church’s cemetery will follow the service.

The family suggests contributions to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Great Lakes Hospice or Holy Family Catholic Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
