Onis Lee Bearden

Graveside services for Onis Lee Bearden, 78, Eudora, will be held at 1:00pm, on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Eudora Cemetery, Eudora, KS.  Onis passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Homestead of Eudora.

Onis was born on March 22, 1945, in Boydsville, AR, the son of Omer and Thelma Louise (Tucker) Bearden.

Onis served in the United States National Guard.

He was a member of the Overland Park Baptist Church in Overland Park, KS.

He worked at Uarco/Communicolor as a Maintenance Engineer where he retired. He later went to work for the Desoto School district, because he was bored with retirement and enjoyed working with preschool children who referred to him at “Mr. Onis” and would often make sure he had cookies on his desk when arrived at work.

He received his private pilot certification in Kennett, MO and loved taking family and friends on adventures.

Onis always had a big smile, a passion for riding motorcycles, boating, riding three & four wheelers and a love for trading cars & trucks.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He married Sharon Kay Hart on November 20, 1964, in Boydsville, AR.  They moved to Eudora, KS in 1989 and she survives at home.

Other survivors include his Daughter, Christina (Keith) White, Eudora, KS and his two sons, Terry (Danielle) Bearden, Tonganoxie, KS and Mike Bearden, Eudora, KS.  Onis had 6 beautiful grandchildren that he loved very much and was so proud of each one of them and was blessed to have 5 great- grandchildren that held a very special place in his heart, along with his sister Nancy Loveless, Rector, AR.

Onis was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings, Charles, Bobby, Viola, Mary Jo and Johnny.

The family suggest memorials in Onis’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

May You feel God’s Love, Mercy, Peace and Hope at this time. Have known Onis from his beginning. His family was like part of my family. Have not been around him, last 50 years, but always asked family about him. Old friends never go away, just change locations some times.
