Michael was born November 2, 1937, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Walter Fred and Maxine (Freeby) Wertz.
He married Mary Judith Brown on December 20, 1959, in Sedalia, MO and she survives at home.
He received his Masters from the University of Central Missouri, was counselor for 29 years at Grandview Middle School and also Kansas City Public School for 6 years.
He also enjoyed playing golf, fishing and had traveled extensively with his wife.
Michael is also survived by his sons, Andrew K. Wertz, Bo Wertz and partner Alison King, brothers, Richard K. Wertz, Fred D. (Valerie) Wertz, two grandchildren, Aaryn M. Wertz, Madeline R. Webb, and one great grandchild, Bentley Webb.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents.
