Maudie “Darlene” Baskins

Funeral services for Maudie “Darlene” Baskins, 76, Baldwin City will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. She passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Baldwin City Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
Darlene was born May 14, 1940 in Calhoun, Missouri the daughter of Price Franklin and Lola Christine (Ash) Hager.

She married James Dean Baskins July 25, 1957 in Calhoun, MO. He preceded her in death October 15, 2012.

Survivors include two daughters, Carmen (Gil) Barela, Denver, CO, Jami (Mike) Thompson, Baldwin City, KS; 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 4 sisters, and too many nieces and nephews to count. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Darren Dean Baskins in 1997, Justin Conway Baskins in 2011; and one grandson, Michael Allen Baskins.

She was a homemaker, who loved to care for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. For many years Darlene worked outside the home in the sewing industry in addition to caring for the home. After their move to Kansas in the mid 80’s Darlene shifted her focus to the grandchildren, gardening, canning, and loving to be outside. She and Jim traveled in the Summer (usually with at least 2 grandkids with them) seeing numerous National Treasures and occasionally borrowing flowers. Darlene always had a smile and a kind word for anyone who needed it.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the mortuary.

Memorials may be made in her name to Great Lakes Hospice and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
