Mass of Resurrection for Mary Theresa Rau, 81, Lawrence, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at a later date.
She died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Mary was born September 24, 1927, in Lewistown, MT, the daughter of Francis and Rose Costelloe Rau.
She received her Masters in Communication from KU and a Masters in Education from St. Mary’s College. She was an educator. She was a speech and drama teacher in Leavenworth, KS, Kansas City, KS and Billings, MT. She then was principal of Central Catholic High School in Billings, MT. She then taught speech and communication at St. Mary’s College. She was the vice president of human resources for Marian Health Center in Sioux City, IA, and then she managed Parkway 4000 Apartments in Lawrence, KS.
She was a Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth for 30+ years. Mary was also a Sister of Charity Associate. She was a founding member of Martha and Mary’s Way. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence, KS.
The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church followed by a prayer service at 8 pm.
She will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service on Friday.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends. She was preceded in death by one sister and six brothers.
