Mary Zook

Memorial services for Mary Louise Zook, 93, Lawrence, KS will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Lawrence Wesleyan Church. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. She died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at her home.  

She was born on November 12, 1915 in Kingston, Missouri, the daughter of Albert & Linnie Stone Houghton. She graduated from Kingston High School in 1933.  She then moved to Kansas City, Missouri to work as a beautician.

Mrs. Zook was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Lawrence Wesleyan Church.

She married E.R. “Bus” Zook on September 4, 1945 in Quantico, VA.  He preceded her in death in 1998. She and her husband moved to Lawrence in 1948 upon Mr. Zook’s acceptance for the position as the manager of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice L. Cochrane, of Lawrence, two sons; Ron D. & Robert

D, and his wife, Amy all of Lawrence, a sister, Martha Raines of Kingston, MO, a brother, Maurice Houghton, of Kingston, MO, a daughter-in-law, Becky Zook of Boerne, TX, two granddaughters; Julie Cochrane Krische and Jodie Cochrane, both of Lawrence, eight grandsons, David and Alex Zook of Phoenix, AZ, Timothy J. Zook of San Antonio, TX, Garrett and Andrew Zook of Linwood, KS, Taylor and Sawyer Zook of Lawrence, KS, Brock Ferguson of Westlake Village, CA and five great-grandchildren. 

Mrs. Zook was also preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” Zook, a daughter, Suzanne Zook Ferguson, a grandson, Peter Cochrane and a son-in-law, Patrick Cochrane.

The family will greet friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Unit and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
