Mary Joann Male

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary JoAnn Male, 81, Eudora will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2009 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.  Graveside Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Scranton, KS.

She died January 10, 2009 at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

She was born October 29, 1927 in Scranton, KS the daughter of Joseph Anton and Inez (Foster) Heise.

She attended Topeka Catholic Schools and Mt. St. Scholastica.  She graduated from St. Louis University with a MS in Dietetics.   She was a High School teacher in Esbon, KS and Avon Lake, OH.  She was a cafeteria production manager for Mills Cafeteria and also a Dietitian at the University Hospital and various nursing homes in Cleveland, OH.

She was also was a Dietitian for St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur, TX.

She married Frank J. Male on August 19, 1961 in Cleveland, Ohio and he survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Frank A. Male, Eudora, Gregory J. Male, Cincinati, OH, two sisters, Frances Swalwell, Topeka, Rita Little, Carbondale, KS; two brothers, Joseph C. Heise, Scranton, KS, Robert Heise, Ottumwa, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Frank R., Justin, JoAnna, Victoria, Jasmine, & Jenna.

Family will greet friends from 2-6 p.m. where a rosary will be said at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. 

The family suggests memorials in her name to Alzheimer’s Association and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
